MACHINAL
“I suppose I got to marry somebody – all girls do…”
Based on a sensational 1920s murder trial, Sophie Treadwell’s groundbreaking play Machinal follows a young American woman trapped in societal expectations. She follows the prescribed path – marriage, motherhood, and monotony while she is desperately searching for a sense of freedom from her suffocating existence.
Performed by the Actor Musicianship cohort, this production features an original score and a fresh approach to Treadwell’s powerful exploration of society and human dignity.

“The set design displayed surreal artistic dimensions to reflect abstract self expression as each cast member metaphorically expanded on candid expressions experienced as a neurodivergent, tapping into internal conflict, self-critical natures & insecurities having to feel, act & be a certain way to get by within society.”
